ABOUT CEDAR POINT THERAPY

IMG_8803-EDIT.jpg

Cedar Point Therapy takes its name from Paula’s grandson, Sherman Cedar. She chose it not just because of the name itself, but because of what it represents.

Cedar trees are deep-rooted and steady, weathering seasons without needing attention or performance. There’s something in that image that reflects the work we do here, not quick fixes or reinvention, but change and growth that happen quietly over time, when something solid is underneath it.

That’s what Cedar Point Therapy is meant to be: a place that stays steady while people do the work of becoming more whole, more aware, and more able to shape a life they can actually live in.

About Paula Elkin, LPC, LSATP: Owner

Paula Elkin is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner with more than a decade of experience working with children, adolescents, adults, couples, veterans, and military-connected families.

Before becoming a therapist, she served in the United States Navy. That experience shaped how she understands people under pressure, how they adapt, what they carry, and what it takes to come back to yourself after prolonged stress or change.

Her work focuses on anxiety, OCD, trauma, relationship challenges, personality disorders, substance use, and major life transitions. She often works with people who feel stuck in patterns they can see clearly but cannot quite break out of, including overthinking, avoidance, people-pleasing, conflict cycles, or the lingering weight of past experiences.

Paula’s approach is active and collaborative. Therapy with her is not just about insight but movement, learning how to respond differently, not just understand differently. She tends to ask direct questions, notice patterns, and help clients turn ideas into something they can actually use outside the room.

She draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), EMDR, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)-informed work, and Gottman Method-informed couples counseling. Rather than forcing one model, she uses what fits the person in front of her.

Her work is also shaped by advanced training and certifications, including Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS), National Certified Counselor (NCC), Licensed Substance Abuse Treatment Practitioner (LSATP), EMDR training, Gottman Levels 1 and 2, ERP training for OCD, Certified Personality Disorder Treatment Provider, and Certified Women’s Mental Health Specialist.

Paula believes therapy works best when it is honest, steady, and human, when there is room for both clarity and humor, and when change is something built over time, not rushed into being.
